“Lost and Found: Lost Coast Trail Adventure” – Hosted by the Bay Area Rivian Club and the Sierra Nevada Rivian Club

Get ready for an epic journey along Northern California’s rugged and stunning Lost Coast! This fall, experience the vibrant colors, ocean views, and unforgettable off-roading that make this area a hidden gem. Whether you’re here for the scenic drives or to test your Rivian’s mettle, you’ll have an adventure to remember.

Friday: The Journey Begins
Start your trip by heading up the 101 towards Fortuna. For those with extra time, don’t miss the Avenue of the Giants, a scenic detour through towering redwoods that will make your Rivian feel tiny. Think of it as a “bonus find” for the weekend! We’ll officially kick off the adventure with dinner and drinks at Eel River Brewing. There are several hotels and campgrounds within walking distance, so charge up your vehicles and your energy for the weekend ahead!

Friday Meetup Spot:
Eel River Brewing, Fortuna
Directions to Eel River Brewing

Nearby Hotels and Campgrounds:
Comfort Inn & Suites Redwood Country
Super 8 Fortuna
– RV/Campground: Riverwalk RV Park

Saturday: Foliage & Ocean Views
Start your day with breakfast in the charming town of Ferndale, then meet up at the starting point of Mattole Road (5th Street, pointed south). At 11 AM, we’ll embark on a breathtaking drive toward Shelter Cove. Expect spectacular fall colors and ocean vistas, along with the iconic black sand beaches that define this area. No need to air down your tires—these roads are rough but manageable.

Once in Shelter Cove, enjoy the local spots for dinner, grab a drink, and take in the ocean air. There are hotels, campgrounds, and even a deli for those staying the night. Don’t miss out on brunch by the water!

Saturday Meetup Spot:
Mattole Road, Ferndale
Directions

Shelter Cove Accommodations:
The Shelter Cove Oceanfront Inn
– RV/Campground: Shelter Cove RV Campground and Deli

If you’re staying at Shelter Cove RV Campground, call ahead and let them know you’re with the Bay Area Rivian Club. You will get a $10 discount on your fees. Additionally, if you were planning on charging while staying there, you will need an adapter like this one.

Sunday: Off-Road Adventure to Usal Beach
For those eager to keep the adventure rolling, Sunday is all about going off the beaten path! Head south into the woods for an off-road trek to Usal Beach. The trails are 2WD-friendly (even tested on 21” rims!), and the route offers stunning fall colors, bridges, and scenic viewpoints. After the beach, we’ll continue until we reconnect with Highway 1.

If off-roading isn’t your vibe, no worries! You can head back to Redway and hop on the 101 for a more direct route home.

Important Tips:
– Radios are highly recommended for smooth communication, as cell signal will be spotty at best (unless you’ve got a cell booster—and even that’s no guarantee!).
– Charging: Plan ahead! If you’re staying at the Shelter Cove RV Campground, mention you’re with the Bay Area Rivian Club for a discount. Otherwise, the charger in Leggett might be your only option, and it could be a bottleneck. Bring adapters if needed!

Pro Tip: If your battery’s 90% or more when you start, you should be golden for the journey. But if not, remember—charging at a slow pace is just “s’more” time to enjoy nature!

For those who love a good map, a Gaia GPS Map will be available to share with Gaia account holders. This route may not be the one your Rivian’s dash chooses, but trust us—it’s the best way to experience the Lost Coast! Keep your eyes peeled for future trips, as we’ll be adding more trails and exploring dispersed camping options for next time.

We hope you’ll be found on this Lost Coast adventure—many more to come!

When booking, each space is for your vehicle, not members of your party. Feel free to include that information in the comments section. We will send out an e-mail asking for some additional details the week of the event.

PLEASE NOTE: This trip is limited to 15 vehicles.
